James Stevens is a self-taught British artist known for his bold, expressive paintings that blend emotional portraiture, conceptual storytelling, and the high-intensity world of Formula 1. Drawing inspiration from the heritage, drama, and movement of motorsport, his work combines striking colour palettes, dynamic composition, and cinematic energy to create pieces that are both visually powerful and emotionally immersive.

Beginning his artistic journey with simple pen drawings as a child, Stevens developed his distinctive visual language through years of experimentation, persistence, and dedication to his craft. In his early twenties, he discovered a passion for Formula 1, creating artworks that capture not only the spectacle of racing but also the emotion, pressure, and history behind the sport.

Today, Stevens collaborates with globally recognised brands including Aston Martin, McLaren, Ducati, and SailGP, while exhibiting his work at galleries and events across the UK and internationally. This piece captures Ayrton Senna and his Team Lotus pit crew during the 1986 German Grand Prix, placing the viewer in the heart of the action as tyres are changed on the famous 98T.A striking composition, it uses strong abstract contrasts and warm colours to bring the scene to life. Attention to the pit crew's expressions highlights their concentration and determination, while also paying tribute to the team members working behind the scenes."When creating this piece, I wanted to capture both the intensity of the pit stop and the personalities of those involved. I focused on the expressions, lighting, and contrasts to give the scene energy and depth, a testament to Senna and the team's dedication."
