Andy Warhol
22 7/8 x 26 3/8 in
This Flowers poster by Andy Warhol is a striking example of the artist’s exploration of repetition, colour, and popular imagery. Printed in France in 1964 by Nouvelles Images and copyrighted by Castelli, the work reflects Warhol’s fascination with mass production and the transformation of everyday subjects into art icons. The vibrant floral motifs, adapted from a photograph of hibiscus flowers, are rendered in bold, contrasting hues that exemplify Warhol’s distinctive Pop Art style.
The copyright credit refers to Leo Castelli (1907–1999), one of the most influential art dealers of the twentieth century. Castelli was instrumental in shaping the careers of numerous postwar American artists, including Warhol, Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, and Roy Lichtenstein. Through his New York gallery, he championed the emerging Pop Art and Minimalist movements, helping to redefine the global contemporary art scene. Castelli’s collaboration with Warhol was central to bringing Pop Art to international prominence and to establishing Warhol’s work firmly within the context of fine art rather than commercial design.
Presented in its original frame and white mount, the poster remains in excellent condition, preserving the integrity and visual impact of Warhol’s original design. As one of Warhol’s most recognisable series, Flowers bridges the natural and the artificial, the unique and the reproduced, key themes that defined his artistic vision during the 1960s.
