Janet Massey

Janet Massey’s mesmerising works aim to evoke emotion and memory of past experience through her painting style and masterful use of colour. The abstract pieces are driven by impressions of her physical surroundings, experiences, memories, emotions and music. The semi-abstract landscapes are usually derived from sketches and watercolours created en plein air. These sketches are later interpreted into large breathtaking oil paintings using bold colours and fluid brush strokes. Janet has always worked with watercolour along with pen and ink; when this style is translated to oil on the canvas you will also find the same movement and watery, translucent feel in this more traditional technique.

Janet studied at Central St Martin’s school of Art & Design in London, UK which followed with an extensive and international career for 30 years within Design and Interiors. This background formed both a practical and aesthetic knowledge of the art world. Janet then decided to solely pursue her first love of drawing and painting, fulfilling many commissions for properties all over the world from the Middle East, North Africa, USA and Europe. Janet has also contributed works to be included in a charity auction at The Turner Gallery, Margate, UK, has had her work featured in “Elle Decoration & Living” and held many successful solo exhibitions across the UK.
